Oberlin College Students to Present Sondheim Musical February 7-9. (January 31, 2002)
JANUARY 31, 2002-- A student production of the experimental musical Anyone Can Whistle -- with music and lyrics by Stephen Sondheim and the book by Arthur Laurents -- will be presented Thursday through Sunday, February 7-9 at 7 P.M. in Oberlin College's Wilder Hall.

Experts on Tajikistan and the U.S. Economy to Speak at Oberlin College in February. (January 31, 2002)
JANUARY 31, 2002-- Two distinguished speakers, one in the field of diplomacy and the other in economics, will speak at Oberlin College on February 11 and 12, respectively.

Oberlin Town and Gown Celebrate Black History Month 2002. (January 31, 2002)
JANUARY 31, 2002 -- "Is Racism Dead? The Color Line Revisited" is the theme of Black History Month 2002 at Oberlin College. The College and community* -- a leading terminal on the underground railroad, an early haven for free blacks and a hotbed of abolitionism -- will celebrate the month with a series of public talks, exhibitions and other events coordinated by the College, the Oberlin Historical Improvement Organization and the Oberlin Public Library.

Oberlin Music Coalition to Present Annual Winter Children's Concrt on February 2, 2002. (January 29, 2002)
JANUARY 29, 2002-- The Oberlin Music Coalition, a community outreach organization run by Oberlin Conservatory students, will present their annual winter children's concert on Saturday, February 2, 2002 at 3:00 P.M. in Warner Concert Hall at the Oberlin Conservatory located on the corner of Professor and East College Street. This concert is free and open to the public.

New Weekly Radio Program, Musical Wonders, Debuts on WCLV 104.9 FM. (January 14, 2002)
JANUARY 14, 2001-- On January 16, 2002, at 6:55 P.M., on WCLV 104.9 FM, "Musical Wonders," a new radio program from Oberlin, hits the air waves. The show, hosted and produced by Oberlin alumna and radio personality Paula Gordon ('68), poses a new question each week that explores the numerous similarities and connections between professional music making and the every day world. Gordon interviews Conservatory professors and distinguished alumni and asks them to explain the parallels between producing and listening to great music and the many other experiences we all have in our daily lives. By unveiling what goes on in the minds and practice rooms of great musicians, listeners are invited to hear that music making is a process common to what many of us feel and do all the time. Professor of Piano Robert Shannon, Professor of Viola Roger Chase, and members of the St. Petersburg String Quartet are just some of the guests who have been interviewed for the program.

Conservatory Student Presents Opera and Lecture Series. (January 14, 2002)
JANUARY 14, 2001-- Oberlin Conservatory senior Eric Einhorn will present a full-scale production of Viktor Ullmann's opera Der Kaiser von Atlantis (The Emperor of Atlantis). The performances will be held in the Wilder Hall Main Lounge on the Oberlin College Campus from January 31 - February 2, 2002. Pre-performance lectures will begin at 7:30 P.M., and the performances will begin at 8:00 P.M. All events are free of charge. This one act opera runs approximately one hour.

Oberlin Conservatory Presents Modern Premiere of Royer's French Baroque Opera-Ballet Le Pouvoir L'Amour February 8 and 9. (January 14, 2002)
JANUARY 14, 2001-- The Oberlin Conservatory of Music Historical Performance Department, in conjunction with the Conservatory Opera Theatre Department and the Oberlin College Department of Theatre and Dance, will present the modern premiere of Joseph-Nicolas-Pancrace Royer's opera-ballet Le Pouvoir de l'Amour on Friday, February 8 and Saturday, February 9 at 8:00 P.M. in Finney Chapel, located at the corner of Lorain and Professor streets in Oberlin. Both performances are free and open to the public.
