OBERLIN COLLEGE ANNOUNCES THE 2000 SPRING THEATER, DANCE & OPERA SEASON
Featuring Classical and Contemporary Work Created by Oberlin College and Conservatory Faculty, Staff, Students, Alumni and Special Guest Artists

OBERLIN, OHIO— Discount subscription ticket packages are available for Oberlin College's Spring 2000 Theater, Dance and Opera season. The four-event season includes two theater performances, The Colored Museum, and Buried Child; one opera, Don Giovanni; and one dance concert featuring the Oberlin Dance Company.

All four events are performed in the College's Hall Auditorium which is located on Main Street (Route 58) between the Allen Memorial Art Museum and the Oberlin Inn. Hall Auditorium is wheel chair accessible and hearing enhancement is available. To order tickets or a season brochure call the Oberlin College Central Ticket Service at (440) 775-8169.

The four-event spring season begins February 11, 12 and 13 with George C. Wolfe¹s The Colored Museum , directed by Caroline Jackson Smith, associate professor of theater and African American Studies. This award-winning satire takes place in a modern museum where nothing is sacred. The exhibited characters explore the African-American experience through stories of myths and madness. Performances are at 8 pm, Friday and Saturday, Feb. 11 and 12, with a 2 pm matinee on Sunday, Feb. 13.

The spring opera is Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart's Don Giovanni, to be performed March 10, 12, 13 and 14. Directed by Jonathon Field, the opera will be sung in Italian with English supertitles. The conductor is Paul Polivnick, music director of the Oberlin Orchestra and Oberlin Chamber Orchestra. The legendary lover and scoundrel Don Juan seduces women and eludes his enemiesbut eventually gets his comeuppancein one of Mozart¹s greatest operas. Performances are at 8 pm, Wednesday, Friday and Saturday, March 15, 17 and 18, with a 2 pm matinee on Sunday, March 19.

On April 14, 15 and 16, Buried Child by Sam Shepard will be presented, directed by associate professor of theater Paul Moser. When Vince brings his girlfriend home to meet his relatives, nobody seems to recognize or remember him, but they nevertheless manage to infect him with their secrets in this Pulitzer Prize-winning vision of the American family. Performances are at 8 pm, Friday and Saturday, April 14 and 15, with a 2 pm matinee on Sunday, April 16.

The season concludes May 5 and 6 with the Oberlin Dance Company concert which features an eclectic blend of original dance pieces. Choreographer Carter McAdams, professor of dance, creates a new ensemble dance for the students of Oberlin Dance Company 2000. Guest artists and invited student pieces round out the diverse evening¹s program. Performances are at 8 pm, Friday and Saturday, May 5 and 6.
