Toshikata was born in Edo (Tokyo). His given name was Mizuno Kumajiro. He was a pupil of Yoshitoshi. He also studied Japanese painting with Watanabe Shotei. His series of bijinga prints included, "Thirty-six Selected Beauties", "Modern Beauties", "The Tea Ceremony" and "The Seasons and Their Fashions". His pupils included Ikeda Terukata, Ikeda Shoen and Kaburaki Kiyokata. |
