Soccer loses in OT
On Saturday, Oct. 3, the Oberlin College varsity men’s soccer team needed to beat number-one ranked Ohio Wesleyan in their final conference game of the season in order to qualify for the NCAC playoffs. While the Oberlin defense, led by sophomore goalkeeper Clayton Combe and senior backs Nick Franco and Jamie Davis, was able to keep OWU scoreless and just 11 shots in regulation play, OWU was victorious in the end as they finally found the back of the net in double overtime to end the game 1-0. Though disappointed with the loss, the Yeomen were proud of their play this season and a winning record of 9-8-3 overall and 4-4-1 in the conference. “We fought hard throughout the entire game, and even though we didn’t get the result, I am so proud of every one of my teammates for the way they played and the effort they put forth,” said Franco. “This season truly was the beginning of something great. Oberlin soccer
is no longer just a team. It is a program that will only improve from here on
out. We achieved a winning season, which is big, but the future is going to be
bigger. I look forward to hearing about OC soccer and our
accomplishments.”
