Junior Shannon Fox outran the North Coast Athletic Conference (NCAC) competition this year on the track and off it. For that, Fox is the Women's Yeoathlete of the Year.
In the fall, Fox won the conference cross-country meet, finished ninth in the Regional meet and 65th in the NCAA Division III Nationals. Only one Yeowomen runner has ever done better at Nationals. It was Fox's second trip to Nationals. In 1994, Fox finished 123rd in the nation.
In the spring, Fox won the confernce meet's 3,000-, 5,000- and 10,000-meter races. It was her second year to win the 5,000- and 10,000-meter races at the meet.
In the longest of the races, Fox shattered the record at Papp Stadium in Wooster by more than two minutes and qualified for Nationals, in which she opted not to compete. Her time at the NCAC meet was 37:47.66, about 1:25 faster than the second place finisher.
The day after the 10,000m victory, Fox won the 3,000-meter race in 10:35.40 and the 5,000-meter in 18:32.00.
Sophomore Katherine Roberts led both the women's soccer and lacrosse teams in points this year.
In both sports, Roberts was far and away the team's assist leader. In soccer, she racked up nine assists and four goals. In lacrosse, she scored 32 goals and dished out 21 assists. In both sports, Roberts made first-team all-NCAC.
Between her two field sports, Roberts ran indoor track. This is the second year in a row Roberts has been a runner-up for Yeoathlete of the Year.
Head Coach Jim Donovan called senior Ryan Kelley "the best lacrosse player I have ever coached." This year Kelley lived up to Donovan's claim and has become the Review's Men's Yeoathlete of the Year.
This year he was first in the NCAC in goals and points and second in assists. He was chosen unanimously for the NCAC's first team as a midfielder. As a junior he was the ninth leading scorer in the country among Division III juniors.
This year he tied with Josh Cantor OC'95 for the most points in a season with 79 and scored the second most goals, 58, behind Cantor's 60. He also set records with the most goals in a career, 155, most points in a career, 236, most ground balls in a season, 165, and most ground balls in a career, 440.
