Oberlin's field hockey team knocked the College of Wooster out of the catbird's seat in the tight NCAC race Oct. 16.
Junior Ellen Scott scored the game's only goal in its second overtime to give the team one of its four conference wins.
Now the team's record is 4-8 in the conference and 7-11 overall heading into a regional tournament at DePauw University.
In other recent action, the Yeowomen lost 2-0 to Wittenberg Oct.
The Yeowomen fell 2-0 to Frostburg State University Oct. 13 before hosting Wooster three days later.
Since the rebound win over Wooster, the Yeowomen have been playing on the road. On a fall break trip to Virginia, they defeated Sweet Briar College 3-0 Oct. 20 and lost to Lynchburg College 3-1 a day later.
Then, Oberlin returned to conference play with a 3-0 loss at Wittenberg Oct. 25 in a game played at night and on artificial turf.
Senior Karen Vastine said that was one of the few games in which the Yeowomen have broken down in this season of close matches.
But Saturday, Oberlin recovered with a 10-0 trouncing of last place Earlham that included four scores each from Scott and senior Jessica Resnik.
"Earlham is my favorite," Resnik said. "We're both out there to have fun."
With the regular season over, Oberlin finished 6th in the conference. That's the same place they finished last year, when they won just three games.
"It was much better this season," Vastine said.
This weekend's tournament is a new regional competition and will be the last time five Oberlin seniors - Zelda Menard, Resnik, Scott, Kaelyn Stiles, and Karen Vastine will play collegiate field hockey.
In the tournament, Oberlin will play Hanover, Transylvania and Center Colleges.
