Suit names College and Wolff as defendants
Professor of Trumpet Byron Pearson has filed a $25,000 law suit against the College and Dean of the Conservatory Karen Wolff. The suit claims that Pearson was unjustly removed from his position as professor.
Dye, McCormick testify at Holtzman hearing
President Nancy Dye and Catherine McCormick testified in Cleveland on Wednesday in another part of the David Hotzman hearing. Hotlzman is accusing the College of not following due process in its investigation of sexual misconduct charges against him.
Administrators and faculty unaware of changes
Dean of Student Life and Services Charlene Cole-Newkirk removed several clauses from the rules and regulations last summer during the editing of the Student Handbook. The clauses define what evidence can be used against students in College judicial proceedures.
Dean of college finds Oberlin a unique place

Surprise inspections not official
The Office of Residential Life and Services and the Office of the Dean of Student Life and Services said this week that there will be no surprise fire inspections in dorms. Both offices were surprised by reports last week that four dorms were to begin surprise fire inspections.
Changes to come from outside
In a lively Senate meeting Sunday, two senators resigned and the Senate discussed possibilites for restructuring the body. Another senator resigned later in the week, bringing the number down to 16 members. There must be 15 members of Senate for quorum to be met.
Off-campus housing fire codes too loose, dangerous
City Manager Rob DiSpirito and the Oberlin Fire Chief are working to enforce fire codes in off-campus houses. The codes apply to houses with more than five residents. The project had been an on-going one of DiSpirito's since his arrival in Oberlin last summer.
Former Assistant Secretary of Health at Finney
Former Assistant Secretary of Health and Human Services Peter Edelman spoke at Oberlin on Sunday. Edelman resigned from President Clinton's administration after the President signed the welfare
reform bill. His lecture centered on ways young people can fight the welfare bill and its effects.
