The Yeowomen lost to the Tiffin University Dragons 3-2 last Saturday and shut out Notre Dame College of Ohio's Falcons 4-0 Wednesday.
The Yeowomen felt they should have beaten Tiffin. Two of Tiffin's three goals were scored on questionable penalty kicks and the third was scored during the last two minutes of the game because of a referee's call. "There were only two refs, instead of three, and I really felt that they couldn't see very much of the field," senior Lisa Novins said. "On one of the penalty kicks the foul was not even commited in the goal box."
"There were some really bogus calls," first-year Meg Ansara said.
"I think we got frustrated not only with the way the refs were calling the game, but also with the way we were playing," said first-year Jessa Klotz.
"They were probably the most physical team I've ever played," Novins said. "We didn't get enough calls."
Oberlin played well. They led 2-1 after the first half and maintained the tie up until the last two minutes of play. "We played really well as a team," Novins said. "The defense was better than it has been. Usually we have trouble with transitions and this time it was a lot better. We only had two breakdowns and those two were both from bad calls."
Over the game, Oberlin outshot the Dragons 21-10.
"I think we should have won that game," Ansara said. "I think we played better soccer."
On Wednesday The Yeowomen came in determined to succeed. "We were ready to win," said Klotz.
The Falcons weren't at the same level at the Yeowomen. Lack of subs and poor playing led the Yeowomen to have some trouble finishing the game.
"They're not quite as competitve - and when you're playing a weaker team, it's tough for your team to go out and play the way it should," Coach Blake New said. "We played for the most part the way we're supposed to play."
"We played really well at the beginning," Novins said. "We pretty much dominated the game but they weren't very good and we started to get sloppy. It was good because we got to implement a lot of the things we've been woking on in practice. It was good preperation for Saturday."
The Yeowomen play Alma College on Saturday.
"It's good to be home," Meg Ansara said. "I think we play better at home. Everyone's excited."
