Free wine, non-CDS food and music are all things to savor this Friday at the Allen Memorial Art Museum. The museum is holding its biannual Art Afterhours tonight.
The Art Afterhours program was started to bring more students and visitors to the museum. "Many Oberlin students don't come here," said Nathalie Ryan, Education Intern at the museum. Ryan hopes that this evening's event will draw a crowd.
During Art Afterhours, the museum is open later and a musical performance from the Oberlin Conservatory is featured, as well as a "cafe setting in the sculpture court with food and wine, and everything's free," said Ryan.
Last April the first highly successful Art Afterhours was held: over 300 people attended and listened to eighth blackbird, a contemporary chamber ensemble whose members are former and current Conservatory students.
Ryan said that Art Afterhours provides a "more social atmosphere" and allows contemporary musicians who do not usually get a lot of playing time to perform. Tonight, the Oberlin Percussion Group will be performing.
According to Ryan, the music goes on for about an hour and can be heard throughout the museum. She added, "If you've never been to the AMAM, it's a great time to come - there is free wine!"
Art Afterhours takes place tonight in the Allen Memorial Art Museum at 7 p.m. Food and wine provided.
