Security Notebook


The following is a compilation of weekly reports from the Office of Safety and Security.

Oct. 3, 12:04 a.m. Officer responded to a loud music complaint at Wilder Disco. Music was turned down; no further problems.

2:06 a.m. Officer responded to the report of a missing bike from Harkness. The bicycle, a Raleigh, 10 speed, red in color, was locked to the bike rack. Matter under investigation.

6 p.m. Officer responded to assist Student Life and Services in relocating two students whose off-campus residence was damaged by fire.

Oct. 4, 11:58 a.m. Officer responded to a report of a motor vehicle accident that occurred on Oct. 1 in which a staff member's vehicle, while parked in a College lot, had been damaged by an unknown vehicle. Damage was to the passenger side wheel well and front fender. Matter under investigation.

12:26 p.m. Officer responded to assist a student who had cut a finger the evening before while slicing bread. The student was transported to Allen Memorial Hospital where she was treated and released.

8:20 p.m. Officer responded with Oberlin Fire Department to a fire alarm in Zechiel House. Detector was set off by burning incense. Student was advised against burning in dorm rooms.

9:30 p.m. Officer met with a student whose damaged bike was missing from being lock to lamp post at Main and Lorain Streets. The bike is a Schwinn Miranda Sport, yellow and green, 2-speed and valued at $40.

Oct. 5, 1:04 a.m. Officer responded to a Mudd door alarm. A student who had been reading during closing exited through the door, activating the alarm.

1:52 a.m. Officer met at the Safety and Security Officer with a student who resides off-campus and reported his bicycle stolen from his front porch. Bike is a gray, Giant 12-speed, valued at $150.

2:13 a.m. Officer responded to a report of an unknown male hitting a wooden chair against a dumpster at the receiving dock of South Hall. The subject had left the area before arrival; was in the company of a female.

2 p.m. Officer responded to a report of harassment by five juveniles who were taunting and yelling at a student and her friend near East Hall. Juveniles were dispersed after identification was requested.

Oct. 6, 4 p.m. Director of Environmental Health and Safety, Cheryl Wolf, reported that the bat recovered from the east walkway of South Hall by a Safety and Security Officer on Sept. 28 had tested positive for rabies as reported by the Lorain County Health Department. Questions may be referred to the College Environmental health and Safety Office or the Lorain County Health Department.

Oct. 7, 1:50 a.m. Officer responded to a report of students entering South Hall without the use of validines. A work order was filed.

3:03 a.m. Officer responded to a report of a possible Brown Recluse spider in a room at Dascomb. The spider was contained in a jar and given to Environmental Health and Safety for identification.

10:11 a.m. Officer responded to the report of a bike theft from the Con. The bike was a Bay Rider, 3-speed, maroon in color with a tan seat and valued at $70.

4:04 p.m. Officer and Oberlin Fire Department responded to a fire alarm at Asia House. The cause of the alarm was smoke from burned rice. Alarms were reset with no further problems.

11:39 p.m. Officer responded to a reported theft from an unlocked vehicle parked in Dascomb Lot. Taken was a Radio Shack Walkman, valued at $90.

11:45 p.m. Officer, while on patrol, observed two females chalking the sidewalk and poles in front of Stevenson. Further action pending.
