Assistant Dean of the Conservatory John Jacobson has resigned. Jacobson informed Dean of the Conservatory Karen Wolff of his decision this week.
"He has been thinking maybe he wants to do other things in his life," Wolff said. "He's going to be a hard man to replace."
Jacobson could not be reached for comment.
Jacobson was responsible for supervising the maintenance of equipment in the Conservatory. Jacobson came to Oberlin six years ago.
"He's been a competent and wonderful man to work with," Piano Technician Allen Wright said. "I had heard vague rumors last week, but this is a surprise to me."
Associate Professor Richard Povall, chair of the TIMARA department, said, "He has been a wonderful colleague. It's terrible he's leaving. He's always been incredibly supportive."
Wolff has not yet decided how to address the absence. No acting dean has been appointed.
"All of us are very sorry he's leaving," Wolff said. "I'm going to miss him a lot."
