Security Notebook


The following is a compilation of weekly reports from the Office of Safety and Security.

Nov. 3, 4:44 a.m. Safety and Security responded to a report of a subject who ran from a custodian in the Conservatory (which was closed at the time of the report). Matter under investigation.

6:55 p.m. Safety and Security officer responded to report of an injured student. Student had injured her finger while moving sound barriers in Warner Concert Hall. Student was transported to the hospital for treatment and released.

Nov. 5, 1:01 a.m. Safety and Security officer, while on routine patrol, observed an insecure item in the box office of Hall Auditorium. The item was transported to the Safety and Security officer for safekeeping.

Nov. 6, 3:07 a.m. Safety and Security officer responded to report of an apple thrown through a room window in Barrows. The window was taped by officer and a work order was filed for repair. No one suspicious was observed in the area.

11:20 a.m. Safety and Security officer responded to report of a harassing message received by e-mail. Matter under investigation.

12:15 p.m. Safety and Security officer found that a student incorrectly identified himself in relationship to contact for a parking violation. Matter under investigation.

3:40 p.m. Safety and Security officer responded to a fire alarm at Talcott. A faulty detector was located and repairs made by electricians.

Nov. 7, 12:55 a.m. Safety and Security officers responded to report of a situation at Wilder. Upon arrival, students were found to have been involved in an altercation. Matter under investigation.

4:08 p.m. Safety and Security officer responded to report of a staff member's vehicle being broken into. Nothing was missing.

8:14 p.m. Safety and Security officer responded to report of a College owned vehicle being operated recklessly on Lorain Street. Follow-up to be completed with Transportation staff.

10:07 p.m. Safety and Security officer responded to a report from a guest of the College that his vehicle window was broken and the vehicle entered while parked in Mudd Lot. Taken were three Nike bags and contents.

Nov. 8, 7:01 a.m. Safety and Security officer and Oberlin Fire Department responded to report of a fire alarm caused by a greasy pan left in an oven. No damage.

10:15 p.m. Safety and Security Officer responded to a report of a theft of an unlocked bike from Wilder. Bike is a women's, one speed, black in color and valued at $150.

12:08 a.m. Safety and Security officer responded to a request to assist an RC in closing down a loud room party in East Hall.

Nov. 9, 12:05 p.m. Safety and Security officer was dispatched to the greenhouse at Kettering to find that unknown person(s) had damaged several plants overnight. Investigation to continue.

5:13 p.m. Safety and Security officer responded to report of damage to refrigerator handle to gain access. Investigation to continue.

Nov. 10, 3:27 a.m. Safety and Security officers responded to an alarm at the Monroe House. A check of the interior and exterior of the building were made and all was found to be secure.

Nov. 11, 5:32 p.m. Safety and Security officer responded to report of a student with an ankle injury. Received treatment from jumping down the stairs. Student was transported to the hospital for treatment.

10:32 p.m. Safety and Security officer responded to report of a theft of a chair from the lounge at Harvey. Matter under investigation.

10:36 p.m. Safety and Security officer responded to a loud music complaint coming from the Wilder Disco. Wilder building staff were advised.
