The Stats

Commencement is an enormous production which the College and community manage to pull-off each May. The planning and preparation begins months in advance in anticipation of the thousands of people descending on the campus and surrounding areas. The following are some statistics on what goes into such a production.

- 6000 chairs are set up for the graduation ceremony

- the single tent for the senior dinner cost several thousand dollars to rent

- served at the senior dinner: 900 baked potatoes, 15 pounds of potato salad and cole slaw, 600 10-oz NY strip steaks

- total kegs ordered by the college for the weekend: 30 Labatt Blue

- at the Heisman dinner, 190 tenderloin filets will be served.

- the appetizer for the half-century reception will be caviar-sprinkled devilled eggs

- all dorm rooms are full of either hall cleaners, alum or parents. Out of the 1900 rooms in the college, 1600 are filled with parents/alumni

- 30 tenters are setting up in Jones Field

- Campers will be set up in the Grey Gables parking lot

- The Feve ordered 40 kegs for the Commencement weekend

- Annie's tripled their food orders to compensate for increased business

- Bunny's Flower Shop ordered extra locally-grown roses for Commencement: most of their business is walk-in.

- the Java Zone expects to go through over 300 lbs of coffee this weekend.
