Security Notebook


The following is a compilation of weekly reports from the Office of Safety and Security.

September 10, 9:46 p.m. Officer responded to a report of someone screaming in the arboretum. The subject located advised that he was screaming to release frustration and agreed to cease his activity.

September 11, 7:55 a.m. Officer and Oberlin Fire Department responded to a fire alarm on the second floor of Dascomb. Cause was a malfunction of the detector.

1:50 a.m. Officer assisted a student who was ill and intoxicated from Wilder to the student's residence hall. The student was transferred to the care of the Baldwin residence hall coordinator.

September 12, 3:13 p.m. Officer responded to assist a student at Wilder Hall who struck and lacerated his head on the counter at Wilder Information Desk. Student was transported to Allen Memorial Hospital and released.

8:39 p.m. Officer responded to a report of a residential life staff member in Langston who confiscated a contraband item believed to be drug paraphernalia.

September 13, 12:40 a.m. Officer responded to a report by a student who was approached by a suspicious non-college male outside of Wilder Hall. Subject gave her his pager number and asked her to give him her name.

1:45 a.m. Officer responded to Keep Co-op and a report from off-campus about loud music. The Safety and Security Office advised the residential life area coordinator and assisted in closing down the party.

12:56 p.m. Officer responded to a request by a parent for assistance in contacting a student. The student was located and advised of the request for contact.

September 14, 7:53 p.m. Officer discovered a lock in South Hall had been disabled with a glue-like substance. A work order was filed for repair.

September 15, 6:40 p.m. Officer responded to Stevenson in reference to a student who had strained an ankle outside. A transport to Student Health was provided, where the student was treated and released.

September 16, 3:27 a.m. Officer and the Oberlin Fire Department responded to a fire alarm at Talcott. Cause of the alarm was the malfunction of a smoke detector.

9:21 a.m. Officer responded to a report of a musical instrument missing from the Conservatory bass room between the end of June and July 20. The instrument was a Conrad Gotz double bass valued at approximately $6000.

11:45 a.m. Officer responded to a report of currency found on the floor of Stevenson. Anyone having lost the currency should contact the Safety and Security Office to describe the loss.

12:33 p.m. Officer and the Oberlin Fire Department responded to a fire alarm at Stevenson Hall. A small child had activated the pull station.

7:30 p.m. Officer responded to Wilder Hall to assist a Rathskeller staff member who had fallen ill with chest pains. The employee was transported to Allen Memorial Hospital via ambulance and admitted for observation.

8:58 p.m. Officer responded to a report of a student injured from a fall while bicycling on South Professor Street. Student was transported via ambulance to Allen Memorial Hospital and admitted for observation.
