COMMENTARY

Now that it's been settled, we talked to Oberlin College employees about the new contract

Eva McFarland First Cook:
I like it. I think we've come a long way. Some of the conditions we asked for before we didn't get. I think we did pretty good.

Stu Wardrope Electrician:
I can't see any problem with it. We got a percentage raise and our TIA is better.

Terry Kish Grounds Specialist:
I am very happy. I think the College is pretty fair.

Judy Wigert Line checker and Cashier in Stevenson:
I've heard that everyone in Dascomb is in the union. Here in Stevenson, not everyone is. I was told that there would be no rasies here, and that doesn't seem fair. It's a good contract for those in the union. It doesn't do any good for those of us who aren't.

Bev Cannon Union Steward and Service Custodian:
I think that they got a very good deal- it's one of the best contracts we've had in a long time. It's just a tentative contract, but I don't think there'll be much change when we sign it. Over half of the union voted for the contract.

Rick Scott Stockroom Clerk:
I think it's comfortable. Everything seems to be sufficient. It came out good on the contract. Since we got the UAW here we've gotten better results than we did with the old union.

Tim Campbell H.V.A.C. Technician:
I think we negotiated a fair contract with the College. We didn't get everything we wanted, but I think the College gave us a very fair package! We have increased our wages, our retirement, have good/great benefits, etc. And I would like to thank the students for their support. We were totally unaware of the petition, 350 plus signatures. We had it with us, great to know you were behind us.
