Security Notebook


The following is a compilation of weekly reports from the Office of Safety and Security.

Sept. 23, 9:27 a.m. Officers responded to a report of a bicycle which was stolen from in front of Mudd. The bike was last seen on Sept. 21 when the owner left the bike unlocked. It is a Murray men's black and white 10-speed with orange forks, valued at $50.

Sept. 24, 4:06 a.m. Officers and the Oberlin Fire Department responded to a fire alarm in Talcott kitchen. The alarm was caused by a malfunction in a smoke detector head.

8:24 a.m. Officer and Oberlin Fire Department responded to a fire alarm at Talcott. The alarm was caused by smoke from a spill in an oven kitchen.

4:06 p.m. Officers responded to a fire alarm at Asia House. The alarm was activated by student burning incense in her room.

7:52 p.m. Officers and the Oberlin Fire Department responded to a fire alarm at Dascomb kitchen. The alarm was activated by smoke created when boiling milk spilled on the burner.

Sept. 25, 8:47 a.m. Officer responded to a report of an ill staff person at Carnegie.

12:20 p.m. Officer responded to a report of a subject, who was not a student or an employee, requesting an I.D. card at Daub House. The subject left when assistance was sought.

Sept. 26, 2:33 a.m. Officer responded to a report of a student in Burton Hall in relation to harassment by an acquaintance of her roommate.

2:33 a.m. Officer responded to a report of an intoxicated student on the front lawn of Tank. The student, who was returning from a party off-campus, was assisted to her residential hall.

4 a.m. Officer responded to a report of an intoxicated student at Price Hall. The officer assisted the R.C. in taking one student, who was seated outside, inside due to the dropping temperature.

8:07 a.m. Officer responded to a report of a student asleep in Tappan Square. The student, who was intoxicated, was assisted to his off-campus residence.

10:08 a.m. Officer and Oberlin Fire Department responded to a fire alarm at Kade. The alarm was activated by burning butter in a frying pan.

9:30 p.m. Officer and Oberlin Fire Department responded to a fire alarm at the Service Building. The alarm was activated by a burned-out fan in a computer tower.

4:44 p.m. Officer responded to four juveniles who were present in an academic building not open to the public and playing in the museum. The children were advised they could visit the museum, but should stay out of other College buildings.

Sept. 27, 3:04 a.m. Officer responded to a report of a combative student at Zechiel House. The student was found asleep in his room and the call was unfounded.

11:30 p.m. Officer responded to a report of a student who was depressed. Residential Life staff was contacted and the student was transported to Lorain Community Hospital.

Sept. 28, 1:50 a.m. Officer responded to a report of three students swimming in the Conservatory water garden. Four other students had hidden their clothes which were recovered nearby. The students were warned not to swim in the water garden.

6:50 p.m. Officer responded to a report of a suspicious white male, 5'10'' tall with a goatee and glasses, wearing a plaid shirt and short blue pants at Keep Co-op. Subject claimed he was a former student looking for somewhere to sleep.

6:50 p.m. Officer responded to a report of an injured student at Keep Co-op kitchen. A student was cut on the leg by a broken glass. A student assisting her fainted. The student with the cut was transported to Allen Memorial Hospital where she was treated and released.

7:48 p.m. Officer responded to a report of an injury occurring earlier on the rugby field. The student, complaining of back and neck pain, was transported to Allen Memorial Hospital, where she was treated and released.

Sept. 30, 3:27 p.m. Officer responded to assist an off-campus resident in requesting that two uninvited persons leave the residents' party. The two subjects contacted complied with the officer's request to leave.

6:32 a.m. Officer responded to a report of a student who felt ill, stating she had bumped her head earlier. Student was transported to the Allen Memorial Hospital emergency room where she was treated and released.
