Alex Bernstein college sophomore.
The environment at Oberlin gets very oppressive sometimes. After day 30 of gray, rainy weather, when all your clothes are wet, and you start to sympathize with those gun-toting postal workers, it would probably be nice to get the hell out. But I'm glad they built that cage around Harkness to keep all the hippies in.
Arturo Araya double-degree fifth-year.
No. I have to qualify that. I'm a fifth-year. I've thought about taking a semester off. I was tempted to leave by graduating last year (my fourth year) because I was ready for new experiences outside of Oberlin. I was anxious for new experiences.
Emily Osterweil college senior.
I think about leaving Oberlin all the time. While I feel that I am getting an excellent education, I find the social atmosphere to be, at best, slightly oppressive, and at worst obnoxiously grating.
Franklin Gould college sophomore.
Growing up around Dartmouth College, I had a specific idea of what college was supposed to be- what a student body and campus should look like. Oberlin is not Dartmouth and that bothered me for a while. I thought a lot about transferring my first semester but I've since warmed up to the school and decided that this is really the place.
Amanda Schoonmaker college sophomore.
I have considered leaving Oberlin, primarily due to the fact that I am spending approximately $30,000 a year to have very few inspiring professors, being unable to get the classes that I desire due to the registration system, the fact that housing tends to be less than appealing, I hate Marriott, and Ohio is not a state which I desire to spend very much time in. But I'm still here, whatever that means.
Katy Durham-Hammer college junior.
Not leave "leave for good" leave. But I need to leave. Just for next semester. It's all about coming back next year fresh.
James Richter double-degree fifth-year.
I feel like I graduated last year and wish I had.
