October 10, 3:45 p.m. Officer responded to a report of a recovery of a suspected drug paraphernalia item (pipe) found in plain view on a window ledge during room fire inspection at Noah.
4 p.m. Officer responded to a report of a theft of a backpack from Philips Gym occurring between 2:30 and 3:30 p.m. The backpack was left outside of the equipment cage with other backpacks but was missing upon the owner's return. Loss includes: Adidas book bag, 4 credit cards, $25 cash, prescription, a swatch watch valued at $250, an electronic notebook valued at $250, license and i.d. The theft was also reported to Oberlin P.D. The backpack was returned to the equipment room the next day without the cash present.
5:07 p.m. Officer responded to a report of a suspicious person in the men's locker room at Philips Gym staring at a male showering. The person was reported to be a white male, age 40 to 45, 6 foot tall, heavy set; balding with gray hair and thick glasses. A report was also filed, at the complainant's request, with Oberlin P.D.
7:12 p.m. Officer responded to a report about the concern of the emotional well-being of a student living off campus. The person was contacted and found to be all right. In turn he was placed in contact with college services.
October 11, 11:56 a.m. Officer responded to a report of a broken window on the north wall of Crane Pool. The window, 6' x 8', appeared to have broken from the outside.
3:25 p.m. Officer responded to a report of an injured student. The student had fallen from a bicycle near Tank Hall and the rider had suffered pain and numbness on the left arm. The student was treated and released from Allen Memorial Hospital.
7:07 p.m. Officer responded to a report of an injured student who had burned her hand earlier at Stevenson Dining Hall while pouring some hot water. The student was transported to Urgent care where she was treated and released.
October 12, 11:20 p.m. Officer responded observing surface writing in the new concrete on the north side of Harkness. The concrete was dry to the touch and could not be repaired.
October 13, 3:50 a.m. Officer responded to a report of a student in South Hall who cut his right hand when he accidentally broke the glass of a window he was trying to close. The student was taken to Allen Memorial Hospital where he was treated and released.
1:05 p.m. Officer responded to a report of an earlier theft from vending machines occurring on Friday, Sept. 25, 1998 in Zechiel House. Approximately 60 to 70 candy bars were taken from a vending machine.
4:30 p.m. Officer responded to a report of a theft of tools from the College Grounds Shop over the last six months. Missing are a power tamper valued at $500 and a weed eater valued at $400.
10:49 p.m. Officer responded to a report of a theft of a fleece coat from the laundry room of Barrows Hall. The coat, hanging to dry between 4:30 and 7:30 p.m., was a North Face yellow and blue fleece coat valued at $100.
11:11 p.m. Officer responded to a report of a recovery of a suspected drug paraphernalia item (pipe) found in plain view on a table during room fire safety inspection at Price House.
October 14, 3:51 a.m. Officer responded to a report of a trouble alarm in the fire system at South Hall. The responding officer contacted a student who stated he bagged his room detector to smoke in his room instead of a designated area.
5:50 p.m. Officer responded to a report of a theft of a wallet from a second floor practice room in the Conservatory. The black, nylon, trifold wallet was taken between 4:30 and 5:30 p.m. and contained $10 in cash, a driver's licensee, credit card and ATM card.
October 15, 9:57 a.m. Officer responded to a report of items missing from the Chaplain's Office in the Center for Service and Learning. On October 4, 1998, a 27" TV/VCR combination unit was noticed missing from the first floor alcove. In May, a 1998 Ducane gas grill was noticed missing, value $482.
5:23 p.m. Officer responded to a college custodian reporting to a missing coat from the lounge of Lord house. The coat, last seen between 1:00 and 1:20 p.m., was a men's brown tweed 3-button sport coat, valued at $100.
October 16, 10:25 a.m. Officer responded to Stevenson parking lot to report the thefts of emblems from a 1983 Mercedes occurring between 9 p.m. on October 15 and 10 a.m. on October 16. Missing was the front hood emblem; the trunk emblem was also damaged during an attempt to remove it.
12:15 p.m. Officer responded to a report of an unwanted visitor outside the residence of a student who lives off campus. The Oberlin Police Department also responded and the visitor left the residence.
3:42 p.m. Officer responded to a report of a student who would not leave another student's room in Burton Hall. The visiting student, an ex-boyfriend, was asked to leave the building. Both students were referred to resources within Residential Life.
October 17, 9:25 p.m. Officer observed the front panel of the hard drive of a computer in Harvey detached. Missing is a hard drive and floppy disc from a Platinum Symmetric Multiprocessor belonging to a student organization.
5:23 p.m. Officer responded to a report by a student living off campus that someone may have been gaining entry to her residence. Oberlin Police Department also responded to report an animal may have been in the area.
October 24, 6:45 p.m. Officer responded to a report of a tent that had been vandalized in the yard of Johnson House between noon and 6:15 p.m. The rain fly had been slashed, a hole had been poked in the screen door, a tent stake rope had been cut, and the stake was taken. The damage was $50.
8:27 p.m. Officer responded to a report that an off campus residence on East Lorain Street had been broken into during fall break. The burglary had been reported directly to Oberlin Police Department. Missing were two stereos, two phones and an answering machine.
October 25, 7:22 p.m. Officer responded to a report of an off campus student resident who was ill from alcohol. The student was transported to Allen Memorial Hospital Emergency Room via ambulance where the student was treated and released.
9:39 p.m. Officer responded to North Hall for a report of unwanted phone calls from a passenger met on a flight from Milwaukee to Cleveland. The student was to advise the caller to not call again and to contact the Safety and Security Office if attempts to contact her continued.
October 26, 1:35 p.m. Officer responded to a report to harassment via computer communication. During a computer game prior to Fall Break, one student had received what he considered offensive (homophobic) remarks from another player who had joined the game. Upon return from Fall Break, the player who had made the offensive remarks again joined the game but dropped out when told his remarks were offensive. The player who made the remarks stated the comments were not intended as personally offensive, but directed to the characters in the game to make the game more heated.
5:47 p.m. Officer responded to a report of a student who resides off campus being confronted on the bike path between Butternut and Russia Road, exposing himself to her. The subject, described as a white male, 26 years old, with light brown hair and a thin mustache, wearing a blue hooded sweatshirt and light denim pants, approached the student on a bike while he masturbated. Lorain County Metro Parks responded for a report.
