Financial Aid director resigns

by Abby Person

In a sudden move, Director of Financial Aid Howard Thomas announced his resignation Friday. His resignation was effective immediately, and the circumstances surrounding the resignation are unclear. Associate Director of Financial Aid Brian Lindeman has been named acting director.

"There are very, very competent people in the office. Operations will not be affected," said Vice President of College Relations Al Moran.

Thomas had no comment in regards to his resignation, and employees have been instructed to refer questions on the issue to the Office of College Relations. College President Nancy Dye declined to comment on Thomas's departure.

According to Moran, the resignation is a personnel matter; therefore, its details cannot be divulged publicly.

Thomas has been at Oberlin since 1990 and has seen the financial aid department through numerous changes in federal policy and internal procedure. He worked closely with Dye in recent years, as the College instituted many changes.

"Howard has long been a leader in Financial Aid," Director of Human Resources Ruth Spencer said. "When it comes to financial aid, he is very well respected."
