Security Notebook


The following is a compilation of weekly reports from the Office of Safety and Security.

Feb. 11, 10:15 a.m. Officer responded to a report of a student who had tripped on a curb on East College Street and injured her ankle. The student was transported to Student Health for treatment.

Feb. 12, 2:23 a.m. Officer responded to a report of an ill student with difficulty breathing and chest pains at Price Hall. The student was transported to Allen Memorial Hospital for treatment. The incident was reported to Residential Life.

10:19 a.m. Officer responded to a report of a theft of currency from an office in Philips Gym. Missing was $500.00 in currency from a locked desk between 5:15 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 11, and 10:15 a.m. Friday, Feb. 12. The matter will also be reported to the Oberlin Police Department.

Feb. 13, 2:15 a.m. Officer responded to a report of a student yelling obscenities at the Safety and Security Shuttle driver at approximately midnight in Lord / Price lot. The student was upset that the shuttle pulled away from the lot before she could board. The shuttle was filled to capacity at the time it pulled away, and that explanation was given to the student at the time the van left.

2:20 a.m. Officer responded to a report by the Oberlin Police Department of a student who had fallen and was injured on the city sidewalk on the east side of Baldwin. The student was transported to Allen Memorial Hospital where she was treated for a broken ankle.

9:02 a.m. Officer responded to a report of damage to the landscape caused by a delivery truck at Wilder.

11:30 a.m. Officer, while on patrol, slipped from the edge of the stage at Hall Auditorium, injuring her right ankle.

Feb. 14, 3:37 a.m. Officer responded to a student ill from alcohol. The student was attended by a friend for several hours after the report.

5:04 a.m. Officer, while on patrol, located a painting on the second floor stairwell of Burton Hall. As there was no art project permit on file to correspond with the painting, the incident will be reported to Residential Life.

5:06 a.m. Officer responded to a report of an ambulance call at an off-campus residence. A student, who was reported to be ill after ingesting alcohol and drugs, was transported to Allen Memorial Hospital for treatment.

8:21 p.m. Officer and Oberlin Fire Department responded to a report of a fire alarm in Baldwin. A smoke detector had been activated by popcorn which burned in the third floor kitchenette microwave.

9:13 p.m. Officer responded to a report of the theft of a collection of CD�s from a room of a resident of North Hall. The resident stated approximately 30 CD�s (some rap artists, Liz Phair, Michael Jackson, and Madonna), valued at $540, were taken from the desk next to her room door between 6:00 p.m. and 8:00 p.m. The student stated her room door was locked.

10:30 p.m. Officer responded to a report of a suspicious person at the Conservatory, who was seen on three separate occasions between Jan. 28, and Feb. 14,. The subject, a black male, 5�10", medium build, medium complexion, wearing glasses, 165 lbs, approximately 40 years of age with some graying hair, occupied a practice room opposite the reporting student on two occasions, watching the student practice. On the third occasion, the subject followed the student from the library to the student�s practice room, but soon left.

Feb. 16, 5:02 a.m. Office responded to a fire alarm on the third floor at Dascomb. The source of the alarm was a malfunctioning detector in a student�s room.
