We'll come back stronger, smarter, and faster. We'll definitely be a better team. Maybe next time we'll blow [Ohio Wesleyan] out for beating us like that.
Sophomore Chandler, juniors Nwofor and Lane and senior Ely are members of the women's indoor track and field team. Throughout this remarkable season, they have consistently outperformed their opponents at the 800 meter relay, an event for which they are ranked first in the North Coast Athletic Conference. For the past three consecutive weeks, the quartet has grabbed first prize in that event; on February 19, they set an Oberlin Field House record by completing the race in just 1:49.33. This weekend, they will square off against their fiercest division rivals at the conference championships at Denison University. Wish them luck - not that they'll need it. |

In a non-coference match, Oberlin tennis plays host to Carnegie Mellon University this weekend.
Looking back, share with us some of your reflections about the season that was.
Why do you think the Plague captured the imagination of so many students? That type of thing doesn't happen at Oberlin.
Do you think the Plague can enjoy that kind of success next year?
How did you feel about Fernando Bretos' brief return to coaching?
How would you compare him with this season's coach, Glenn Kaplan?
As a native of Connecticut, what is your favorite NHL team now that the Hartford Whalers have relocated to North Carolina?

What team will win the Stanley Cup this year?
Any last thoughts?

IN THE LOCKERROOM WITH...Dan Bourque
Dan Bourque is a junior defenseman for the Oberlin Plague and a future NHL star.
Overall, it was definitely the most successful season that any club sport has ever experienced. We had plenty of good games and consistently high attendance at practices. And the team was blown away by the enthusiastic support we received from our fans. So it was a pretty memorable season.
Well, hockey is certainly the best spectator sport. But hockey also has a reputation as being wild - the fans like to get rowdy, drink some beers, watch a few fights. So the Plague attracted people to the rink who might not attend a sporting event otherwise. But we also were a competitive team with a winning record. And, as I said, hockey is the coolest game on Earth.
It'll be tough, but I think we'll be all right. We will lose the nucleus of our team - Greg Scranton, Jon Gonnelli and others - so I hope there will be a lot of underclassmen and first-years filling the void. It doesn't help that Ben Bernard, Evan Kelley and I will be away during the fall semester, an important time for practices and early-season competition. But we will be strong in net. Don't worry about us.
It was an emotional high for the team. He inspired us on the bench and pushed us to new heights. He called a timeout toward the end of the game that was somewhat ill-advised, but we have forgiven him. Besides, it's always interesting to have a Cuban on the ice.
Glenn stepped in and did a decent job as coach. He had some big shoes to fill, but he's made an adequate benchwarmer. He's always good for a cup of water and a spit bucket.
Well, my parents are settling in Tampa Bay, but I would never become a Lightning fan. They're just too bad. Really, I'm in a transitional period. I'm settling less on teams and more on players - Wayne Gretzky and Ray Bourque, for instance. But I'm hoping that the Whale will one day return to Hartford.
I'll just say that I have an uncle named Ray...
Although Brett Hull is on the disabled list, I'm sticking with the Dallas Stars. Look at their roster - Ed Belfour, Pat Verbeek, Sergei Zubov - that's a good team. Don't be surprised if Mike Modano is named the Playoffs MVP.
Yes. I want the people of Oberlin to know that I, too, cry myself to sleep every night thinking of Roger Clemens in a Yankees uniform. It just sucks.
