Last weekend, Oberlin water polo played its first game of the season against Baldwin-Wallace University, winning 14-9.
A tournament had been planned for the weekend, but was cancelled at the last minute when the University of Akron pulled out. Luckily Baldwin-Wallace was able to pull together a small squad and come to play in an informal match. So informal was the match that Oberlin had to donate a few players to fill out the Baldwin-Wallace roster. To top it off, first-year Rahula Strohl, sophomore Mitch Wyman, junior Alan Cox and senior Jeremy Steinhauer were forced to take turns officiating the games.
Oberlin players scored six of Baldwin-Wallace's nine goals; for his part, sophomore sensation John Limouze chipped in five for the opposition. For Oberlin, the high scorers were senior co-captains Jeremy Steinhauer with five goals and Scott Remley with four. The final score for was Oberlin 14-9. First-year Rebecca Ducore got the game ball for most improved player and two dramatic assists. At mid-match, she exclaimed, "I love this game!"
Oberlin water polo travels to the University of Akron this weekend and to Ohio State University the following weekend.
