COMMENTARY

Now that we've had a year to evaluate the meal plan, we asked students how they felt about flex dollars and food.

Nell Beekman is a college sophomore:
My only opinion is that I don't like that we have to eat on board. I think the flex dollars are a rip off because I'm going to end the year with tons of flex dollars I can't use. I'm going to eat in a co-op next year. But I think it's better than just a straight 21 meal plan.

Mathias Wegneris a college senior:
It sucks my ass. I'm sick of fucking getting ripped off by CDS.

Robin Willoya is a college junior:
I believe it's a step in the right direction; however, I want to have a plan that actually costs less. It can be difficult finding ways to cover all the costs of college when you are paying for it yourself. I enjoy cooking for myself and find that my dietary needs and the CDS offerings often don't match. That is why I chose the seven meal plan this year. However, the plan is mainly arranged around people who have 14 meals, meaning people who use their flex dollars for snacks, not meals. What am I expected to do? Am I expected to eat microwave meals and grilled sandwiches?

Beth Kontrabecki is a college junior:
I think it's a noble idea but De Café has exorbitant prices. I used up my $50 allotment in two weeks. But I do like the wider variety of options this year over last. It used to be so strict, three meals a day at the same times every day with no alternatives at all.

Catherine Mayhew is a college senior:
I'm graduating so I don't really care if the rest of the school starves. But I do think it's an improvement over last year.

Erica Rose is a college junior:
All I know is that I'm hungry all the time.

Jenny Cutler is a college junior:
I like it a lot better than the straight 21 meal plan, but I think there's still room for improvement. I think it's pretty shitty that all the plans cost the same.
