Not all music happening at Oberlin takes place within the conservative walls of the conservatory. In fact some of this year's most exciting events in music had nothing to do with the Con at all. From hip hop superstar Doug E. Fresh to 20th century folk troubadour Josh Ritter, music scene at Oberlin is as diverse as it is active.

From indie-rock to punk, Oberlin was, hands down, the hot the hotbed of rock and roll in Lorain County. Barraged continually with shows by students and out of town guests, the rock shows on Oberlin's campus were hard to keep up with. In addition to the Spring Fling production of Black Star and the Wailing Souls, the visit by Japanese rockers Screaming Seagull Kiss Her Kiss Her, and the Plastic People of the Universe, Obie-rockers including Scenes From the Next, 30 Seconds over Tokyo, and Marcie and the Go-bots were never far from the scene.
