COMMENTARY

What will Oberlin be like in 10 years?

We asked graduating seniors what they expect Oberlin to resemble when they come back for their 10 year reunion.

Jeff Williams is a College Senior:
I feel like it's gonna change a lot. Academically it's gonna be okay, but as for the student body it's gonna be real bad. Rational student thought and activism will probably go downhill real quick.

Jason Sokol is a College Senior:
I don't see it being a lot different. I see the administration trying to make Oberlin more like Amherst, Swarthmore, Harvard, Yale and other select Colleges. But I don't see the student body changing that much.

Charlie Olsky is a College Senior:
I still see it as being a weird microcosm of no society that has ever existed before.

Stephanie Kostyal is a College Senior:
The entire school is gonna go to Hell without the presence of this class.

Sira Anderson is a College Senior:
I'm afraid that without need-blind admissions the student body will be more wealthy and conservative than it is now. But I would hope the faculty and administration would be more progressive and keep changing Oberlin into a more intelligent place. Basically I just hope the faculty will keep pushing things.

Adam Feitelberg is a College Senior:
I think it'll go even further downhill as they let even more hippies into the school.

Carissa Romano is a College Senior:
I know they'll have a better science program with the new science fortress and all. I'm so jealous. But in general, I think the academics will still be great and Oberlin will always attract really neat people. You know, the kind in the unpopular group, the ones picked last in gym class. In short...the same.

Mike MacInnis is a College Senior:
It's gonna be like Dartmouth in Ohio. It'll be significantly more conservative. It'll definitely have less tolerance for shenanigans and be a lot more boring.

Alex Levine is a College Senior:
I think Oberlin is at a crossroads. I think it could return to its state of grandeur from the sixties, or it may turn out to be a place that I don't think I have too much in common with.
