The search for a new dean of the Conservatory is nearing completion.
The search, which began in February, has been narrowed from 30 candidates to a final three. Kate Ransom, the directory of the Harid Conservatory Music Division in Boca Raton, Fla., Robert Dodson, dean of the Lawrence University Conservatory of Music in Appleton, Wisc. and Daniel Sher, dean of the University of Colorado at Boulder's Conservatory of Music all visited campus within the last week of classes.
The head of the search committee, Michael Lynn, associate dean of the Conservatory, as well as the other members are waiting for final reviews of the candidates before making a decision.
The class of 1999 will be leaving their legacy behind in a scholarship. The newly endowed fund will provide a $1,000 scholarship to one Oberlin College student from Lorain County each year.
The gift, which topped $14,000, along with $12,000 left by 1998 graduates, will permanently endow the scholarship. Future classes are encouraged to add to the fund to increase either the number of scholarships given per year, or the amount.
"Class support has been astounding," said senior Class council member, Chuckie Kamm. The senior class voted overwhelmingly for the Lorain County Scholarship, after considering approximately 20 gift options.
Saturday morning a main water pipe broke under Kettering Hall of Science. A failure in the pipe caused it to break on May 15, resulting in a loss of water for the building until Monday.
The water line was located near an high voltage electrical line underneath the building. The city was notified on Monday morning and proceeded to turn off the electricity to the line to allow for repairs.
Within four hours, the repair was completed and water and electricity were restored to the building.
