On the daunting parking regulations facing car owners.
Sept. 2, 2:03 p.m. An officer responded to Hales Gym on a report of a broken window in the Jazz Studio. The window was accidentally bumped by an instrument case.
Sept. 5, 7:32 p.m. An officer and the Oberlin Fire Department responded to a priority fire alarm at the Oberlin Inn. A pull station was activated by a child attending a wedding reception.
Sept. 8, 8:30 p.m. An officer and the Oberlin Fire Department responded to a fire alarm. A student, who was participating in a blindfold exercise, accidentally pulled a pull station.
Sept. 8, 10:05 p.m. An officer responded to a disagreement at Lord Cottage between two students over ownership of a watch. The students were referred to mediation through Residential Life and Services.
Sept. 10, 9:46 p.m. An officer responded to a report of someone screaming in the arboretum. The subject located advised that he was screaming to release frustration and agreed to cease his activity.
Sept. 17, 9:58 a.m. An officer responded to a report of a suspicious incident on South Professor near Elm Street. A student, walking south on Professor Street, reported the driver of a black van with an A-1 exhaust pulled to the side of the street, greeted him with an angry voice, then sped away.
Sept. 26, 4:44 p.m. An officer responded to four juveniles who were present in an academic building not open to the public and playing in the museum. The children were advised they could visit the museum, but should stay out of other College buildings.
Sept. 28, 1:50 a.m. An officer responded to a report of three students swimming in the Conservatory water garden. Four other students had hidden their clothes which were recovered nearby. The students were warned not to swim in the water garden.
Oct. 7, 4:10 a.m. An officer was advised that the DJs at WOBC were making prank phone calls to students and surrounding businesses.
Oct. 13, 1:05 p.m. An officer responded to a report of an earlier theft from vending machines occurring on Friday, Sept. 25, 1998 in Zechiel House. Approximately 60 to 70 candy bars were taken from a vending machine.
Oct. 26, 1:35 p.m. An officer responded to a report to harassment via computer communication. During a computer game prior to Fall Break, one student had received what he considered offensive (homophobic) remarks from another player who had joined the game. Upon return from Fall Break, the player who had made the offensive remarks again joined the game but dropped out when told his remarks were offensive. The player who made the remarks stated the comments were not intended as personally offensive, but directed to the characters in the game to make the game more heated.
Nov. 1, 12 p.m. An officer responded to a student who resides off-campus in reference to the residence being disfigured by approximately eight rolls of toilet paper thrown on the front tree, porch, patio, doors and telephone lines.
Nov. 4, 7:23 p.m. An officer and the Oberlin Police Department responded to a report of a 911 call from Harkness. Contact was made with a student who thought the call would not go through.
Nov. 13, 8 p.m. An officer responded to a report of a disgruntled visitor at the Conservatory Library. The subject spoke in an argumentative manner to a student library staff member before leaving the library.
Nov. 15, 8:29 p.m. An officer and the Oberlin Fire Department responded to a fire alarm on the second floor lounge of Barrows. The smoke detector had been activated by candles on a birthday cake.
Nov. 18 An officer responded to a report that 20 cases of Strohs and Michalob beer, six to eight cases of Champagne, and an unknown amount of Meir non-alcoholic Champagne, with an estimated value of $300, had been removed from two coolers at the north end of South Hall kitchen. Time period of the theft is possibly between early November until Nov. 18.
Nov. 23, 9:53 p.m. An officer responded to a report of a strange odor in the third floor room of Johnson House. Upon detection of the unidentified odor, Oberlin Fire Department was notified for a response. The room was tested, ventilated by fans, and occupants were permitted to reenter.
Dec. 6, 1:08 p.m. An officer responded to a report from a student that she was harassed while walking on South Professor by a juvenile on a bicycle who growled at her as he rode past her twice. The juvenile, who was differently-abled, and his parents were contacted to address the situation.
Jan. 1, 10:55 a.m. An officer reported slipping on the ice by Mudd parking lot ramp. The officer reported no pain or injury as he fell, but his upper body twisted.
Jan. 3, 1:35 p.m. An officer slipped on the west exterior Kosher kitchen stairwell, falling down several steps and landing on his lower back and left buttock.
Jan. 4, 12:31 a.m. An officer advised that she had fallen at the Pottery Shop while making a routine check of the building. The officer was treated and released at Allen Memorial Hospital after injuring her right arm.
Jan. 19, 11:15 a.m. An officer responded to a report of damage in several areas of South Hall. The right arm of a chair was sliced in the smoking lounge; a table was broken in the main lounge; electrical dead plate covers were broken on all floors and more wall paper was torn. A "Special Alert" notice from the Security office notified South Hall residents of the series of insidents of damage.
Feb. 5, 4:59 p.m. An officer responded to a report by a representative of Swarthmore College, PA that a card reader missing from one of their facilities may have been mailed to an Oberlin student as part of a scavenger hunt. Swarthmore later reported that the CBORD card reader, valuing $3,500, was returned to them.
Feb. 9, 11:32 p.m. An officer responded to a report of loud drumming at Hales Gym, Jazz Studio. The student practicing was advised if another complaint was received he would have to stop. At approximately 1:30 a.m. a second complaint was received and the student was advised to stop
Feb. 13, 11:30 a.m. An officer, while on patrol, slipped from the end of the stage at Hall Auditorium, injuring her right ankle.
Feb. 13, 2:15 a.m. An officer responded to a report of a student yelling obscenities at the Safety and Security Shuttle driver at approximately midnight in Lord / Price lot. The student was upset that the shuttle pulled away from the lot before she could board. The shuttle was filled to capacity at the time it pulled away, and that explanation was given to the student at the time the van left.
Feb. 20, 10:38 a.m. A visitor reported that a guest speaker initiated a verbal confrontation with her and her friend. The alleged incident occurred in Wilder Hall on Friday, Feb. 19.
March 6, 3:17 a.m. An officer responded to a report that some individuals were seen leaving the crane inside the Environmental Studies building construction area. Upon arrival, the officer discovered that the crane was started and the air brakes released. The Safety and Security officer removed the keys which had been left in the ignition of the crane.
Mar. 6, 9:43 a.m. An officer recovered an injured bat from the front porch of Wilder Hall.
Mar. 6, 6:07 p.m. An officer responded to a report of a nude male sitting in the Snack Bar. The male was advised to put his clothing on and that his actions were not permitted.
April 7, 12:48 a.m. An officer responded to a request to check on the well-being of a student in Kade. The student who had been fasting was contacted and Residential Life staff was notified of the report.
April 26, 1:14 p.m. An officer responded to a report of vandalism in the men's bathroom of Talcott. The words "Bodor" and "Creat" were written on the wall and ceiling about the bathroom stall. A work order was placed for removal.
April 28, 10:30 a.m. A custodian reported finding a hollow point .22 bullet by the east exterior door of Barrows Hall.
April 29, 12:43 a.m. A Communications officer reported a nude white male quickly entering and exiting the Safety and Security Office. Officers searched the area for the male and others believed to be indecently exposing themselves with negative results.
April 30, 10:40 p.m. An officer responded to the report of two students having a disagreement about a beer tap. The officer mediated the conflict.
May 9, 8:23 a.m. An officer investigated a fire alarm which was accidentally pulled by a seven-year-old visitor at Tank.
