Security Notebook


The following is a compilation of weekly reports from the Office of Safety and Security.

Sept. 16, 8:30 a.m. An officer responded to a report from staff member of vandalism to the bandstand in Tappan Square. Numerous beer cans were found strewn about and two balusters were broken.

Sept. 17, 11:10 a.m. An officer responded to a report from a student of the theft of his bicycle from the north side of Keep. The bicycle is a men's red Cruiser with a green seat, a blue front tire, yellow handlebars, and valued at $50. It was accessorized with a bell.

Sept. 17, 9:50 p.m. An officer and the Oberlin Fire Department responded to a fire alarm on the third floor of Keep. The fire alarm was activated by steam from faulty heater unit.

Sept. 17, 10:56 p.m. An officer responded to a report from the Oberlin Police Department of a student involved in a motor vehicle accident at Lorain Street and Berger Court. The student, who was not injured, was transported to her residence hall.

Sept. 18, 2:53 a.m. An officer responded to a report from a student of being verbally harassed by two males while she waited for her boyfriend at the corner of Pleasant and Lorain Streets. The two males exited the vehicle and began walking towards her. She became afraid and ran home. The report is being investigated.

Sept. 19, 2:35 a.m. An officer and the Oberlin Fire Department responded to a fire alarm on the second floor of Keep. The fire alarm was activated by steam from a room radiator.

Sept. 19, 5:40 p.m. An officer responded to a report of a child injured near Mudd. Several children had placed tables end to end to make a tent-shaped ramp. The child fell attempting to jump the ramp on his bicycle. He was treated at Allen Memorial Hospital and released to his parents.

Sept. 19, 8:05 p.m. An officer responded to a report from a student of the theft of his wallet from the A-level lobby in Mudd. The wallet was recovered from the Circulation Desk lost and found at approximately 7:30 p.m. with $70 cash missing.

Sept. 20, 9:05 a.m. An officer responded to a report from a staff member of a powdery substance on the center section of the President's bulletin board covering a flier regarding the Mumia trial. The powdery substance was found to be from a discharged fire extinguisher.

Sept. 20, 8:45 a.m. An officer responded to a report from a staff member of vandalism to the bandstand in Tappan Square. One broken baluster and three cracked balusters were found on the south side of the bandstand.

Sept. 20, 10:16 p.m. An officer responded to a report from a staff member of a continual problem with a non-College male loitering and distracting employees in Wilder DeCafe. The male was explained the non-College visitor policy and he was asked to leave the area.

Sept. 20, 11:30 p.m. An officer responded to a report from a student of the theft of a bicycle from Tank. The bicycle is a red, Huffy, 10 speed, with one black break cable, one white break cable and a pink combination lock on the crossbar. The bicycle is valued at $30.
