COMMENTARY

What do students think about the removal of the trees on North Campus, and the construction of that beautiful fence?

Alex Zorach is a College first-year:
I think it's okay as long as it's necessary. Obviously it's ugly, but you have to do stuff like that. I think there are a lot of places on campus where there is a lack of trees.

Nicole Mans is a College first-year:
It's a shame but I can see that they have to do that for the new science center. I wonder why they did it over fall break when most students aren't here.

Jasmin Phua is a College senior:
I'm fine with it because I like the idea of a new science building. I think the science buildings like Kettering and Sperry are too small right now.

Kayla Blatchley is a College sophomore:
I fucking hate it. I always go that way to class and this interrupts that. I don't care what they're doing, but they're in my way.

Leah Freedman is a College first-year:
I think that we definitely need more room for the science buildings. But I think that if they're going to cut down trees they should plant more or have students plant more.

Syreeta Swan is a College junior:
I don't like it. I understand that it's progress and necessary, but it's not pretty anymore. It's inconvenient and North Quad has lost all its aesthetic value. It also kind of upsets me that it will still be there after I graduate.

Jack Heaton is a College junior:
I am intensely annoyed. I hate not being able to walk through North Quad because of this abomination. Over my dead body will I give a dime of my alumni money because of this.

Ian Demsky is a College senior:
It is well known that Oberlin College's rankings have been slipping in U.S. News & World Reports. Because of this, the drawbacks of having a quote, "idiot catcher" in North Quad are greatly outweighed by the boons a floundering liberal arts college would receive from a new science center. It gets my full support.

Jenny Cutler is a College senior:
If it keeps large groups of Oberlin students from congregating in public areas I'm all for it.

Rachel Mills is a College sophomore:
I think North Quad is ugly now and it'll mess up the feng shui of the whole campus. And the trees broke up the ugliness of Kettering and the best part is I get to wake up to construction every morning outside my window.
