Security Notebook


The following is a compilation of weekly reports from the Office of Safety and Security.

Nov. 12, 12:45 p.m. An officer responded to a report from a resident of Price of defaced items on her apartment door and the theft of her dry erase marker. A check of the building was made with negative results.

Nov. 12, 1:20 p.m. An officer received a report from a staff member at South Hall kitchen of the loading dock door ajar and the theft of 15 pounds of flour, 15 pounds of sugar and a candy bar missing. Value of the missing items is $10 to $12.

Nov. 13, 10:23 p.m. An officer responded to a report from a student of the theft of her bicycle from the southeast wing of South Hall. The bike is an 18 speed, grayish blue color, with high black handlebars, valued at $250. The bicycle was not registered.

Nov. 13, 11:34 p.m. An officer responded to a report from an employee at the Oberlin Inn of what appeared to be a counterfeit $10 bill. The bill was given to the Oberlin Police Department. It was learned the bill was legal U.S. currency.

Nov. 14, 12:06 a.m. An officer received a report from a student in Lord of three threatening phone calls. At 12:20 a.m., a student in Asia House reported receiving similar calls on her answering machine between 10:30 p.m. and 11:30 p.m. The incidents are being investigated by the Safety and Security Officer and Oberlin Police Department.

Nov. 14, 12:24 a.m. An officer received a report from a resident of Langston Hall of several harassing phone calls. The unidentified male caller spoke in a whisper. On Nov. 14, at approximately 10:45 p.m., the resident said the calls stopped.

Nov. 14, 3:49 a.m. An officer received a report from a resident of East Hall of harassing phone calls from a former boyfriend who lives out of state. The incident is being investigated by Safety and Security.

Nov. 14, 1:36 p.m. An officer received a report from a resident of Langston Hall of two harassing phone calls from an unidentified male caller. The incident is being investigated.

Nov. 14, 11:50 a.m. An officer responded to a report from a staff member of the main entry door to the Environmental Science building open. The banner hanging over the balcony was missing. The yellow, pink and blue banner with a "Kid City" print is valued at $200 to $300.

Nov. 15, 8:10 a.m. An officer responded to a report of a small fire in the plumbing shop at the Service Building. The fire was extinguished and there was no damage.

Nov. 15, 9:20 a.m. An officer responded to a report from an Oberlin Inn employee of a verbal altercation with another employee that took place on Nov. 13. The incident was reported earlier to the Oberlin Police.

Nov. 15, 10:20 a.m. An officer responded to a report from a resident of East Hall of two verbally abusive calls the previous evening. The caller was an unidentified female.

Nov. 15, 2:00 p.m. An officer transported a student to Allen Memorial Hospital after she fell during a dance class in Warner Center, injuring her knee.
