Peace
Activist League Favors End of Violence
To
the Editors:
As
I write this letter people are being killed by violence in Colombia,
the Middle East, Afghanistan, and many more places. The United States
is gearing up to expand its War on Terrorism to more
regions of the world. People are being denied essential civil liberties
within the United States in the name of security. Meanwhile,
the IMF and World Bank continue to implement their harmful structural
adjustment policies on countries too poor to deny their aid.
There is so much horror in the world it is sometimes hard to know
where to begin to try to change things. Although no one can offer
a quick and easy solution to these challenges, Oberlin Peace Activists
League is mobilizing to take part in a mass convergence on Washington,
D.C. on Apr. 19-22 to enable people to voice their dissent.
The convergence will include lobbying representatives and senators
in congress on issues relating to U.S. intervention in Colombia
as well as marches against U.S. military involvement in Colombia.
Additionally, there are a number of demonstrations planned denouncing
the effects of the War on Terrorism at home and abroad.
Marches are also scheduled in opposition to the World Bank/IMF.
The Oberlin Peace Activists League will be holding a general
interest and informational meeting for anyone interested in traveling
to D.C. on Thursday, April 11 at 9:30 pm in Wilder TBA. We invite
anyone interested in any or all of these issues to attend the meeting
and become involved in the organizing of this event. For more information
email Oopal@oberlin.edu or come to the meeting.
