Vote
Bier for Senate
To the Editors:
My name is Graham Bier. I am writing because I
am running for Student Senate, and would like to give you an idea
of why I think you should consider voting for me. Once I decided
to accept my nomination to the ballot, I attended a plenary meeting
to get a taste of what Student Senate is like. There is a lot more
power in the organization than I had realized and the senators accomplish
a lot.
Senate presents an interesting problem though. Senators are supposed
to represent students, yet at Oberlin, they are elected at large
on campus. So rather than representing a unit of the student body,
each senator is responsible to the entire campus as his or her constituency.
I see
communicating with students in order to accurately represent their
views as being the most challenging part of being in a senate that
is designed in this way. I want to work to make Student Senate more
accessible, in order that it might better act as a means of communication
for the student body.
I think that I would make an excellent and enthusiastic addition
to Oberlin’s Student Senate. I look forward to the opportunity
to listen to your views and to communicate your concerns and ideas
to people. If you have any questions or comments, please feel free
to e-mail me. Thanks for your time.
