Mini-Course: Muslims and Jews
This mini-course, taught by Professor Ross Brann on Sunday, March 2, at 2:00
pm in the West lecture Hall in the Science Building is open to all students, whether they are registered
for the course or not. Professor Branns course will explore the historical and cultural interaction
between Muslims and Jews from the emergence of Islam in the seventh century to the contemporary
Middle East.

Guest Environmental Lecture
Dr. David B. Goldstein, Energy Conservation Specialist and Energy Program
Co-Director at the Natural Resources Defense council will deliver a talk entitled, Environmental
Protection as Economic Development Policy: Energy efficiency as a Driver of Economic Growth and
Innovation in the Wright Lecture Hall (Room W201) of the Wright Physics Laboratory on Wednesday,
Mar. 5, from 8:00 pm to 9:30 pm. A Cleveland native, Dr. Goldstein was recently named MacArthur
Fellow the prize otherwise known as the genius award, and comes with a no-strings-attached
$500,000.

OC Marijuana Laws Discussed
On Wednesday March 5, four members of the Oberlin staff and a local attorney
will come together for an informational panel to shed some light on the Colleges rules and
regulations and the towns laws pertaining to marijuana. Associate Dean of Students and Judicial
coordinator William Stackman, Director of Residential Life and Services Kim LaFond and Director
of Security Robert Jones will detail the workings of the Colleges policies, while Professor
of Sociology and town prosecutor James Leo Walsh and local attorney Thomas Dougan will provide
information on the towns laws
The panel originally scheduled for December will be the first formal event held by the Oberlin
Chapter of the National Organization to Reform Marijuana Laws since it was officially chartered
over the summer.
Ive rescheduled this panel three times, but now that its actually going to happen
I think it should be really good, OCNORML activities coordinator Blake Wilder said.
