Big Parade Equals Big Fun

With top hat and red carnation, James Peake ’06 serves as master of ceremonies, inviting passers-by to watch Oberlin’s Big Parade. For more than 10 years, college and community have joined together on the first Saturday in May to participate in this homespun, imaginative event founded by Oberlin alum and interactive installation artist Zach Moser ’02.

Groups involved in the Big Parade work relatively independently, but toward a common goal: to represent themselves and the town of Oberlin in a joyous and spectacular event featuring music, dancing, costumes, bikes, art cars, floats and whatever else participants create.

The parade steps off May 4 from Prospect Elementary School and heads into Tappan Square for a festival of performances and live music.
