Let Ture set up soap box with rest of extremists

To the Editor:

I was out of town when Kwame Ture came to speak but certainly don't feel any sense of loss for the missed opportunity. Chalk it up to the kind of emptiness I'd experience if I just missed a Pat Buchanan fund-raising speech. And I gather from various mailings to the campus community that his appearance here was justified because everyone in this country supposedly has a right to free speech. Well as far as I'm concerned, Mr. Ture certainly has that right; and if he wants to exercise that right in Oberlin, let him set up his soap box in Tappan Square along with the other religious and political extremists that a warm day will occasionally produce, ranting and raving and spewing out his radical agenda with the rest of them. But invite him to speak here? Is that what free speech is all about?
