The College Faculty (CF) Tuesday approved a plan to stagger the terms of membership in two key faculty committees.
The staggering is an attempt to stabilize membership on college committees. The Conservatory passed a similar motion at its meeting last week and a staggered-terms proposal is also on the table for next week's General Faculty meeting.
The proposals are all the creation of an ad hoc committee established by the CF last fall. For affected committees, half their members will be elected to two-year terms each year. All committee memberships had previously been for one-year terms.
Also, the new plan allows faculty members to serve on the key committees in two out of every three years. In the past, faculty could sit on these committees for three out of five years.
CF committees that are affected are the Educational Plans and Policies Committee and the College Faculty Council. In the Conservatory, the Conservatory Faculty Council is adopting staggered terms.
The General Faculty Council is the only GF committee that would be affected by the change.
