Museum director resigns

Moore leaves Oberlin after eight and a half years

by Sara Foss

Anne Moore, director of Allen Memorial Art Museum (AMAM), has resigned, effective Dec.31. Moore said she wants to join her husband, whom she married in April, and their children in New York.

"[Resigning] was a very difficult decision for me to make, because I really love my job," Moore said. "I have to do what's in the best interests of my family." She submitted her resignation in August.

Moore said she does not have a job in New York lined up, nor has she looked for one. "Right now I remain absorbed in this job … I have no time to search."

But Moore also said, "I'm not about to just walk away from my career. I feel I've gained such good experience here … I'm confident I can find something challenging."

After eight and a half years at AMAM, Moore said it will feel good to have some time off. "I'm actually starting to look forward to a reprieve," she said. She also said that she is looking forward to building a new family.

A committee to find a replacement for Moore has not yet been appointed.
