Participate in exercise in democracy

To the Oberlin Student Body:

A new semester is starting in which we must once again decide how one can best contribute to our community. At the core of the activity to build our school as a truly student-oriented institution is Student Senate, and now is the time for every concerned and active student to represent the student body!

On Saturday, Feb. 15 at 2:00 p.m. there will be a Student Assembly and Organizational Forum in Wilder TBA. There are presently four organizational seats and numerous at-large seats available for students. Any organization may be represented in senate, and it is emphasized that many large organizations, such as LGBU an La Alianza DO NOT currently have official representatives on Senate, which is a loss for both Senate and the student body. Simply bring as many supporters as possible and one may be elected as an organizational senator.

A similar process will elect at-large senators. Interested students should be prepared to make short statements of their concerns and goals as a student representative, and a vote among all students present will determine the replacement senators, effective immediately, who will serve until the end of this school year.

Whether you are interested in running or not, this is a chance to voice concerns and place a vote toward building our student senate! So get your political asses down to Wilder for an exercise in democracy Saturday, February 15 at 2:00 p.m..
