Students' comments are mean-spirited and false

To the Editor:

Concerning the comments made by two self-appointed, mean-spirited student critics of the Mercantile Restaurant in the December 6 issue of the Review, the facts are these: The owner/breakfast cook explained to the students that there were two 10 top (seats) reservations and there would be a wait. A gift certificate was to be offered as a pacifier. Instead, the students leave and immediately write to the Review condemning all meals at the Merc. My friends and I have enjoyed Sunday brunch at the Merc and found it a pleasurable experience. Although the Merc has moved to larger quarters, it is still not a large restaurant and regulars learn what times it is less crowded or to call first.

It is incomprehensible in a town which was founded by free thinkers for independent thinkers that a couple of students would have the unmitigated gall to advise others to do something on the basis of their limited experiences.

The Lorain Journal of Nov. 29 gives the Merc a long review and refers to it as a "gem."
