Athlete of the Week

Sonja Spencer

Spencer, a sophomore guard from Warren, Ohio, led the Yeowomen in scoring in their final game of the year against Allegheny College. In Oberlin’s 77-60 first-round NCAC tournament loss, Spencer racked up 18 points, making five of fifteen shot attempts. Spencer was money from the three point line, as she made three of seven shots from behind the arc. She made five of six free throw attempts, and also picked up two steals. For the 2000-2001 season, Spencer was fourth on the team in scoring, averaging 8.4 points per game — including a 10.1 points per game average in conference games, which was tied for second best on the team. She started in 17 of the Yeowomen’s 24 games at shooting guard.

Dale Earnhardt Dies in Daytona 500 Crash

Earnhardt, who was perhaps one of the most popular racecar drivers of all time, died instantly when his car crashed into a wall on the last lap of the Daytona 500 on Sunday. In his 26-year career, he won 76 of the 676 races he participated in, finished in the top five 281 times, in the top ten 428 times and earned a total of $41,538,362 in winnings.

Sixers Acquire Mutumbo in Six-Player Deal

Dikembe Mutombo was traded by the Atlanta Hawks to the Philadelphia 76ers in a six-player deal Thursday just hours before the NBA trading deadline.
Mutombo and Roshown McLeod went to the 76ers, who have the NBA's best record, for Theo Ratliff, Toni Kukoc, Nazr Mohammed and Pepe Sanchez.

Duke Playing Like Little Devils
