DeCafé, Rathskellar Close for Brief Fix-Up
by Alyson Dame

For eight long hours Friday, DeCafé and the Rathskellar wereseemingly inexplicably closed. A drainage pipe had backed up, causing liquid to erupt onto the floor. Everything in both areas was cleaned, and anything that had been touched by the flooding was thrown out.
“It was a real mess, from what I understand,” said DeCafé worker Lisa Anadiotis. Allison Trimble, who was part of the cleaning crew, called it “a major plumbing problem.”

A sign apologizing for “unavoidable maintenance problems,” posted on all entrances, was not enough to appease some students.
“I definitely stopped by 30 times and thought ‘No! Why do you hate me DeCafé?’” sophomore Logan Hegg said.
Senior Bill Lascher is on the seven meal plan. “I was pissed; they claim that food is always available,” he said. Others couldn’t get the fix they needed to make it through their next class. “I really wanted a Coke,” fifth-year Peter Blasser said. First-year Sam Schriber had to get coffee at a gas station.
Sophomore Allison Curseen was more understanding. “People had to learn to deal with something not being open 24 hours. You had to make that extra trek,” she said.
