Volleyball Concludes Season
by Dave Cammarata

The Oberlin College volleyball season is winding down. On Wednesday Oct. 31 the Yeowomen played the last game of the season. With this game came a sense of closure to a season that has been more trying than successful. The Yeowomen limped away from this season with an overall record of 2-27 and an NCAC record of 1-7.
On Oct. 20, the Yeowomen played Kenyon College and Wittenberg College. They lost the game against Kenyon 13-30, 28-30, 16-30. While sophomore Eden Trenor had seven kills and sophomore Darci Leonart had 11 assists, the team fell in straight sets. Then against Wittenberg they fell 10-30, 9-30, 17-30.
The next competition came on Oct. 24 when the Yeowomen played against Ursuline. This was the game that gave the Oberlin College Women’s Volleyball team their second win of the season. The scores were 30-25, 16-30, 17-30, 30-20, 15-11. In this game the Yeowomen had a team error to kill percentage of 0.14 and sophomore Amber Coleman played well with 10 kills and four digs. Sophomore Adrienne Zoller had 10 kills and 13 digs, turning in another astounding performance.
With the sound thumping of Ursuline the Yeowomen were prepared for the rest of the season. A second win in a season of trouble brought needed joy to the team. Although the rest of the season did not deliver a victory it will hopefully lead into a season next year fraught with victory.
On Oct. 27 Oberlin faced Concord College. In this difficult game the Yeowomen fell 17-30, 12-30, 16-30. It was a difficult series for the Yeowomen, however; there were several players that played well. First-year Oneida Trainor had one assist and first-year Rachel Cohn played in all three games. This difficult match led into another one when the Oberlin College Women’s Volleyball team played Fairmount College, and fell 23-30, 14-30 and 10-30. In all, the team had 22 kills and 17 assists. Leonhart had two blocked shots and sophomore Stephanie Rooker had four digs.
Against Marietta College it was much the same thing. The Yeowomen fell 17-30, 8-30 and 24-26. In this game the Yeowomen had a total of 69 digs, 22 assists and Amber Coleman had 13 kills.
On Oct. 29, the Yeowomen traveled to Springfield, Ohio to take on nationally ranked Wittenberg University in the first round of the NCAC Tournament. Oberlin fell in three sets by scores of, 9-30, 22-30 and 9-30.

On Wednesday, Oberlin took on Urbana College at home, falling 18-30, 16-30 and 28-30 to end their season.
This season has been a long and difficult one. The Yeowomen walked a very difficult road with a new coach and players, yet amongst all of this they never did give up.
