Women’s Lax Drops Close Game to Wittenberg
by Julie Johnson

On Thursday, April 11, the Women’s Lacrosse team lost 16-3 to the College of Wooster in a North Coast Athletic Conference game. This loss dropped their overall record to 1-6 and their North Coast Atlantic Conference mark to 0-3.

“Today was a rough game. I think that we didn’t play our best. It wasn’t a great example of how we can play,” first-year Sarah Pilzer said.

The main trouble seemed to be a lack of aggression against a very determined Wooster team. Pilzer said the Yeowomen were not “as feisty as [they] should have been.” However, first-year Anna Ialeggio scored one goal, adding to a streak of quality shooting for the newcomer.

The offensive game was stronger than the defensive, though there were moments of good play, including some sound clears into transitions. “One period there were several shots in a row, and I blocked four out of five in one offensive play,” Pilzer said. Senior Laura Kent-Monning and sophomore Maggie Douglas made the other two goals of the game and first-year Victoria Clark contributed with an assist.

Last Saturday, April 6 the Yeowomen played the Wittenberg University Tigers. They lost 9-8 in an exciting overtime game of good, solid lacrosse playing. Despite the loss, the game saw some excellent performances, particularly from the team’s younger players. As for the first-years, Ialeggio scored two goals and passed for two assists and Yukiko Shishikura scored one goal. Sophomore Maggie Douglas also scored a goal.

The Yeowomen, who had a taste of victory in the last game of their Californian tour against Washington State’s Puget Sound with an 8-2 victory, were looking forward to some more wins. “We played a very strong game at Wittenberg,” Pilzer said. “We really pushed hard to do our best, which makes it too bad that [a loss] came next.”

The Yeowomen next play tomorrow in a non-conference game at St. Vincent’s College at 2 p.m.
