Boycott
the Circus
To the Editors:
From Oct. 25 to Nov. 3 the Ringling Brothers and
Barnum & Bailey Circus will be performing at the Gund Arena
in Cleveland. This company has one of the worst records of documented
animal abuse of any animal entertainment company in the United States.
The company relies heavily on elephants, tigers and other non-native
animals, frequently captured from the wild and placed into a lifetime
of forced performance. The animals are trained by violent and painful
means with the use of metal prods, hooks and electric shocks. These
intelligent, highly social and sensitive creatures are then kept
for the vast bulk of their time in undersized cages in which they
can neither socialize nor move freely. Oberlin Animal Rights would
like to ask the Oberlin community to boycott this circus. Our group
will be protesting at this event.
