To a News Brief
To
the Editors:
I
am writing in response to an incorrect news brief that was written
a couple of weeks ago in the Review. It stated that oral HIV testing
would only be available at Student Health this year. While there
is testing at Student Health by a nurse every other Wednesday from
5:30-7:30, there is also free, confidential and anonymous testing
that occurs in the Wellness Center in Wilder 314. This is a peer
testing program by trained college students administering an oral
HIV test. We began our first tests this past weekend and we will
continue this upcoming Sunday, Oct.13 from 2-6 PM and also the following
Monday, Oct. 14 from 6-10 PM. We will continue with these hours
every week for the rest of the semester. The test sessions are brief,
about 15 minutes long in duration and are performed only on a walk-in
basis. The results for HIV testing take one week. The Wellness Center
also has information about testing sites outside of the college
and testing locations that offer blood testing. If you have any
questions about the HIV testing program, please feel free to contact
wellnesscenter@oberlin.edu or lschuetz@oberlin.edu
