Vagina Monologues come to town

Just a week after V-day, the Vagina Monologues will open in the ’Sco. Since the monologues were first performed by their author, Eve Ensler in 1996, they have been performed at 900 colleges across the country and the show continues to be an off-Broadway hit. The show has evolved over the years and has been translated into many different languages and adapted to performance spaces.
Typically, it is performed by several different cast members, with one woman standing in for Ensler as MC. The monologues, which are based on 200 interviews with females of all ages around the world, address the diverse range of feelings women have about their genitalia as well as their sexuality.
For the past four years, colleges and communities have presented the Vagina Monologues on or around Valentine’s Day in order to raise awareness about women’s issues as well as to generate funds for organizations that work to decrease violence against women. This performance is no exception: all proceeds from this weekend’s shows will go to the Lorain County Rape Crisis Center.
The ’Sco. Friday, Saturday and Sunday at 8 p.m. $3 general admission at Wilder Desk or $4 at the door.
