The men’s and women’s indoor track and field squads hosted an invitational meet Feb. 14.
Coming off of strong showings in their previous two meets, the Yeowomen came out and dominated the competition, ending the day in first place. Finishing with 188, the Yeowomen’s toughest competition came from Case Western Reserve University which had 151.5 points.
Leading the Yeowomen was senior Courtney Stackhouse who finished first in both the 55 and 200m dashes.
Stackhouse was also a member of the winning 800m relay team that consisted of junior Shannon Houlihan and sophomores Leslie Bosworth and Teresa Collins.
Bosworth won the 55m hurdles event with a time of 9.06 seconds, while Collins also outraced her competition in the 500m run.
The 1600m relay team came away with a first place finish as well.
Results for the Yeomen were not as good, but indicated the continued improvement of the team. After fairly disappointing finishes in their first two matches the Yeomen handily defeated the Notre Dame men with a score of 65.5 to 46.
Unfortunately, the squad could not keep up with John Carroll and Case Western who battled it out for first with respective scores of 202 and 193.5.
One bright spot for the Yeomen was the 800m relay’s first-place finish.
This past weekend the track teams traveled to Baldwin-Wallace College to partake in the competitive Great Cleveland Championships.
Houlihan and Bosworth once again led the charge for the Yeowomen. Bosworth finished second in the 55m hurdles and third in the 55m dash. Houlihan placed second in both the 55m dash and the triple-jump. Both women were also part of the second place 800m relay team.
Another bright spot for the Yeowomen was the second place finish of the 1600m relay team, consisting of first-years Carmen Welton and Vernicia Elie, Bosworth and senior Vicki Alla.
Overall the Yeowomen finished in fifth place out of six teams with a total of 60 points, while the men finished sixth out of six teams with 10 points.
Bright spots on the men’s side included the third place finish of the 1600m relay team. Runners included junior Mike Severino, and sophomores Kipp Williams, Bret Petersen and Travis Oman.
Newcomer and sophomore Scott Barker was also able to put points on the board with a solid time of 37.25 seconds in the 300m dash, good enough to earn him fourth place.
Both teams look to improve on their performances when they host an invitational today.
