Lee Fisher '73, Addresses Students

Running for Office in the 21st Century," a conference for alumni who have run for public office, or are active in helping others to run, was held as an Oberlin College Initiative in Electoral Politics last April. Oberlin College students interested in campaigning, elections, and the possibility of running for office at some time in the future came to meet alumni, and attend the panel discussions and dinner.

Panelists included Senator Janet Denison Howell '66 (D-VA); Charlene Drew Jarvis '62, City Council Member, Washington, D.C. (D-D.C.); James Margolis '78, Greer, Margolis, Mitchell, Burns & Associates; Todd Portune '80, City Council Member, Cincinnati, OH (R-OH); James Rokakis '77, Cuyahoga County Treasurer (D-OH); and Senator Jackie Vaughn III '54 (D-MA). Keynote speaker was Lee Fisher '73, the Democratic candidate for Governor (D-OH).

The event was sponsored by an endowed program that has been funded by Richard and Dorothy Maloney Cole ('56/'56) to encourage Oberlin students and alumni to run for public office.
