The Oberlin Orchestra’s 2010-11 Asia Tour
December 25 - January 6

The Oberlin Conservatory of Music, awarded the highest artistic honor in the United States, the National Medal of Arts, by President Obama in February 2010 returns to Asia after a successful tour of China in 2005.

Presented by the Beijing Concert Hall Corporation, the acclaimed Oberlin Orchestra will perform in Asia’s most prominent and sought-after concert halls with renowned conductor Timothy Weiss and celebrated violinist Lee-Chin Siow ’95. Winner of multiple international competitions, including the Gold medal at the 1994 Henryk Szeryng International Violin Competition, Lee-Chin is an exemplary role model and one of Singapore's most iconic artists.

The Oberlin Orchestra received rave reviews for its Carnegie Hall appearance in January 2007, under the baton of Robert Spano. Vivien Schweitzer of the New York Times wrote that its performance was “stellar.” “Bravo … an enormously refreshing evening,” wrote Patrick J. Smith of MusicalAmerica.com: “… these young men and women had shown conclusively that the so-called ‘death of classical music’ is a very long way from being realized—at least at Oberlin.”
