Recent course offerings include a first-year
colloquium on the history of Russian social thought; introductory surveys of
Russia from the 10th century to the present; and intermediate courses on Russia
before Peter the Great and Russia/the Soviet Union since 1941. Upper
level seminars focus on society and polity and explore such topics as women,
labor, the Russian Revolution, and Stalinism. My research interests
include late imperial labor history, the social history of early modern Russia,
and sport and Soviet society. Publications include Forging
Revolution: Metalworkers, Managers, and the State in St. Petersburg, 1890-1914
(Indiana, 1993).
