Recent  course offerings include a first-year colloquium on the history of Russian social thought; introductory surveys of Russia from the 10th century to the present; and intermediate courses on Russia before Peter the Great and Russia/the Soviet Union since 1941.  Upper level seminars focus on society and polity and explore such topics as women, labor, the Russian Revolution, and Stalinism.   My research interests include late imperial labor history, the social history of early modern Russia, and sport and Soviet society.  Publications include  Forging Revolution: Metalworkers, Managers, and the State in St. Petersburg, 1890-1914 (Indiana, 1993).
